Asian Session and Council, YCS 2009
Held at St. Lukas Apostolic Centre, Kota Padawan, Kuching, Sarawak from 4-14 June 2009, the ASC YCS 2009 was held, brought 3 issues - food crisis, climate change and human rights education. Participated by youths and priests from 10 nations of Asia, the programme also held to bring awareness to environmental issue among participants, besides making desicions in IYCS in order to make the world a better place. The 10-day event was filled with a lot of interesting activities such as exhibition, exposure trip to NGO sites and villages, workshop, talks, taize prayer, Borneo culture night, YCS session council, and Asian culture extravaganza. The amazing thing is, it was the first international event that I ever joined!! I was the LOC (Local Organizing Committee) during the event, joined the Exposure Team together with Brian, Lucy, Evelyn, Kenny, Precinia and many more.

With Deepak (India) and Andy (Myanmar)Hahaha, we are the team that bring the delegates for the exposure programme, so I experience the way tourist guides do!! As almost all of the villagers are not English speaking, so I have to do the translations to the villagers as well as delegates. The task gets more challenging when 1 of the delegate in my group (as all delegates are divided into many groups and are assigned to different villages) totally not speaking English, but only Mandarin. Luckily, 1 translator that is from the LOCs was sent into our group, so I have less burden to translate the language I did not know!! Overall, I really like the exposure, I danced during the opening ceremony and the Borneo culture night.

During the SessionsOwh, one more part I do like most, Asian Culture Extravaganza!!! It was the peak event of ASC 2009. I feel like attending the Rainforest World Music Festival! ( which I can't attend this year, so that event is in exchange of it...huhuhuhu) It was a very energetic night, where a lot of entertainment and dances from the nations of the Asia continent. Poco Poco from Indonesia that I like most because all of us Sarawakian knew the dance well!! Before the party ends, we have some joget with the song 'Kampung Love' and 'Semina Duduk Berimbai' as the lullaby that leads the atmosphere.

But most of all, I learnt something more meaningful through ASC - friendship, graditute and teamwork. I make a lot of friends, not only from LOC, but withe the delegates also. I feel that the world became so small here, as we get to know each other so fast, even though most of us are not of the same nationality and races. anyway, it was a phenomenal event, God really have this plan for me and everyone who participated. Serving the Lord is always FUN!!

My friends and I set up from UMS around 9am (kunun la, padahal tunggu dorang Cyrut n Charles lagi...hahahaha)....thank God that by the time we get on the bus, the rain stop....hehehehe~~~
Hahaha...actualy, we are not going together in a single bus.....and Jay was still at his kolej when all of us arrived at KK already!
Wuwh, then ....arrived at Donggongon, Penampang...all of us welcomed by Geogy's parent (mom) and sis, where they lead all of us to the scene....and it is a wonderful and tranquil village, after all....I LIKE IT!!! (apa kah....)SO, WHAT DO WE DO THERE??

LAILA TAIB LAID TO REST
KUCHING: Puan Sri Laila Taib, the wife of Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, was laid to rest at the Demak Jaya Muslim Cemetery at Jalan Bako here Thursday. Her remains were brought to the cemetery after funeral rites were performed at Demak Jaya, the Chief Minister’s residence, at 11.30am.
A Tribal Encounter...
It was a very sunny Sunday morning, though. I was waiting for my friends from church, so I went to town earlier than usual...to Gaya Street. I have never been there before, on Sunday.Why??
On weekends, starting Saturdays to Sundays, Gaya Street is locally popular for the city's 'Tamu', which means open-air market. It maybe not as popular as the well-known tamu in Kota Belud, but many citizens turned up to the 'Tamu' until Gaya Street is flooded with people. Sabahan can really be proud of its Tamu in Kota Kinabalu. Traditionally it was a place where farmers, fishermen and vendors trade their produce, Sabah’s Tamu has certainly evolved to become a favorite hang-out place for locals and tourists.
On my recent visit there, I encountered with a program held by KEKKWA (Ministry of Arts & Heritage) named 'Pusat Seni Setempat'. On my arrival, there was a cultural dance performance from the Sabah's Murut tribe. The dance is called 'Magunatip'. This dance belongs to the Murut’s tribe of Kuhijaw (Kwijau). The "Magunatip" word is derived from the "apit" word, which means "trapped". In this dance one must master and show their agility and dexterity in jumping and putting their feet between the clapping bamboos without being trapped. This dance does not usually require any instrumental music because the rhythmic clapping and stamping of the bamboos produce a loud, harmonised, beat and interesting sound or rhythm. This dance is usually performed to highlight any festive occasion.

Then, I took a stroll along the Gaya Street's Tamu. I saw a lot of merchandise being sold in the market, such as vegetables, souvenirs, food, flowers, pets and ceramics.
